Folks,

I'm 20 months out from my fall which cracked my heel requiring hardware to fix. 14 or 15 weeks after injury, my doctor told me to wear compression socks to help with circulation to reduce the swelling. I'm still wearing them but just want to reach out to see how many of you with similar injuries wear them??? I didn't wear them today and the foot did swell, but no more than normal. Just wondering if the benefit is really there.

I had a calcaneal osteotomy, ankle fusion and tendon repair.  Along with icing and elevating the leg, the surgeon and PT suggested compression socks.  I initially wore them for 2-3 months, but stopped after that.  I thought they were slightly annoying and as I recovered it seemed like any benefit was minimal.  Foot and ankle were swollen whether I wore the compression socks or not, and the swelling gradually went away with several months of recovery.  Elevation and icing were best for me in helping with pain and swelling.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
