1. If I Google a route or area in Chrome or Safari, and select a mountainproject.com result, the link opens on the web instead of in app. Is there a way to configure such links to open in the app?
2. why does the app only search downloaded routes? Is there a way to search all? Would be useful for me as a non-US resident not always knowing exactly what state a region or famous route is in
3. is there a way to let route downloads auto update?
Thanks, great app and resource! Using latest version of iOS and mountain project app. Accessing from the U.K.
Great questions and thanks for the support. I'm going to take a stab at providing answers, but know that I've also recorded your questions for consideration with future improvements and features.
1. Prompting a user with the choice to continue in the web browser or go to the app is a great suggestion. (This is universal links, when a user can click a link in a web browser on a mobile device and end up in an app.)
2. Generally speaking, the app is meant for on-site beta and navigation (a mobile guidebook) while the site is meant for higher-level research and trip planning. With this in mind, I think there was an assumption that you would download the areas most important to you or most useful for a specific trip in the app but make general searches using the site. I assume this also helps minimize the size of the app and device data usage.
3. No way to auto update downloaded areas currently. We've worked on that in the past and ran into some issues but I think it's a good option to provide users when we can set it up correctly.
Feel free to reach out if I can help with anything else.
