Red Rock Vanlife Busted?
|
|
Over on a Facebook climbing group someone just posted: "Police busted all the vans/cars parked outside Red Rock, NV last night." Anyone have any insight or info? |

They came to the van pulloff on blue diamond and told us all to leave at 11:30 pm Jan 17 2021. Megaphone and everything. There were some guys with a campfire going in the pulloff. I should've had the brains to tell them to put it out. Not sure if it's related to the police showing up. Kinda funny watching all the vans scatter last night. Twas a great and terrible scattering of our people. A true van diaspora. |

What's "the blue diamond pulloff"? You mean the one just barely outside of town? Or the oak Creek trailheads? |

I'm betting it's by the "reservoir" right on the edge of town on Charleston. Last time I was there in November there were a ton of vans camping there. They kinda leave them alone for awhile then have a big bust to show they're doing something. Campfire was a really stupid idea IMHO. |

That spot has been way too conspicuous for years. Lots of better spots nearby if you aren't a ding dong |

I can’t believe people are still having children. |

Steve Elder, you are correct. Not sure if there's an official name for it. |

Unofficially, is that Skid Row? If I owned an online short-term rental booking company, I'd want that place busted, too. |

Not sure if it's related to the police showing up. Probably. But, been going on for a long time. Used to be dirt roads going in all directions and none bothered stealthy climbers around Vegas. Then development took off. And #Vanlifers quit being stealthy. And all it takes is one motorist to to call the cops and say they saw a fire. |

I camped there 2 weeks in November, sucks they shut it down. I'm surprised it lasted this long though. When I was there it was very quiet and clean. It was perfect to free and like 4 minutes to town and 5 minutes to red Rock. The last day I was there they had towed someone though. |

Glad they busted the conspicuous, lazy bozos. Maybe next time throw a few of them in the clink for a night or two? |

Dylan Hwrote: Wut? You mean there aren't enough FREE and "close" places for them...in a city. There are hotels galore here in Vegas. There are also a lot of places out in the desert that are free...I can't believe people feel disgruntled about not being allowed to set up a homeless camp across the street from $500k+ houses. It's as if you think people have the right to plop their vagrant ass down anywhere they want these days... |
|

There are also a bunch of low key spots to park in every city if you aren't a ding dong and don't set up tents or have fires |
|

Back in my day, we'd piss out the fires of dumbasses and shit on their ropes to make sure they knew not to climb our rocks. And I'm still alive, so it's still my day. But I've never done that. But jesus christ those are some dumb people. |

What does that mean Negative k |

sounds like vanlifers are really giving homeless people a bad name. |
