Blocking users from viewing your page
|
Is there a way to block individual users from seeing your profile/tick list? It seems like when you "ignore" a user, it only blocks them from your forum posts. I like having my tick list public, but there's a user out there who's now actively using my tick list to stalk me. I feel like it would be a good safety measure to be able to block individuals from seeing your profile as a whole. Sometimes climbers are cool people, but there are some fucking creeps out there. |

I think the problem you will face is that even if you were to block access to one MP account it wouldn’t stop them from starting a new one that isn’t blocked. You don’t really have a way to know what that account is so, unfortunately, public info is public. Sorry to hear that you are being harassed. I hope it can be resolved peacefully. |

That's a very true problem. :( Still, having at least one barrier to jump through would be a bit beneficial. |

One solution would be to keep your tick list on your computer in a spreadsheet and to ignore the MP tick list. |

That's super shitty, Amy. Have you tried reporting the user and their harassment to the site owners/admins? |

I like additionally ticking on MP because I enjoy the ease and interactive nature of it. I simply don’t want one particular person to look through it. — To answer John’s question right below: (I’m out of replies haha) In this particular case, it was definitely the dates. A list of climbs plus notes is not a problem. In fact, I update mine because I use partner finder or forums to search for potential partners. I know people are more willing to climb with you if they have at least a vague idea of your abilities (I also look through other people's ticks to gauge if we climb similarly and the bar graphs/etc. give me a quick idea of what styles/grades they prefer and if it aligns with mine). But I don’t think that anyone needs to know WHEN someone was at a certain location. Keeping dates private I think would be great. The option of simply not putting a date would also be cool. Edit: Turns out, after some testing, you can have "-no date-" if you backspace on the date, but the route doesn't show up anywhere else including your own list. |

Sounds like the answer would be a public/private user setting, because as above posters have highlighted the culprit could easily view your information publicly. -Might not be the results you’re trying to achieve though. |

FYI you don't even need a Mountain Project account to see tick lists. So the way they are setup you can block everyone or no one. You can also export other users tick lists so they may have a copy of your previous ascents. |

Ry C wrote: Why have ticks public at all? As has been said it would be easy to start a new account that is not blocked and that's a significant amount of coding work that I don't have hope MP will do that for you. |

What if you changed your user name and image so they didn’t identify you? |
|
When I'm looking for partners on MP, I definitely check their tick list before I agree to meet up. |

You don't even need to make a new account. If your ticks are public anyone can see them while not logged in at all. |

This post violated Guideline #1 and has been removed.
