Tag line, am I missing something?

I saw the BD tagline for like $120.  Is it not just 6 mil cord?

I went and bought 200 feet of 6 mil at my local gear shop for like $30.  It works great as a tagline.  Is there something about the prepackaged taglines that BD and other companies sell that make them superior?

Not sure about the justification for the cost ratio. But a static tag line affords superior handling to a dynamic tag line.  Durability could also factor in.  Relative strength can have a role too - many have unexpectedly wound up rapping on 6 mil.

Colin Haley has a gd article on this

I've used both, a dedicated tage line has less stretch than accessory cord, is stiffer and sometimes lighter. There also a few ropes like the edelrids rap line that has a dynamic core but static sheath so it will take a fall or two if it absolutely had to. Can't remember if it mentions it in the article but use of either a tag like like the purline or the edelrid rap line could be used with caution as a second rope in a double rope system in the mountains.

6 mil accessory cord  is supposed to be really soft for making prussik knots etc. Soft not best for tag but it’ll work. Looks like you got a screaming deal as my local shop is at .40 a foot for 6 mil- $80 for 200’

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
