Making a spinner tool

Here is a slight improvement on one of the methods of making a spinner tool: Because the loctite (or nylon) red glob on the insert does not reliably keep the insert from unscrewing itself during use, I have found a better way of permanently fixing the insert inside the coupling nut. It requires minimal tools and is easier than drilling out the too skinny center of the otherwise nicely machined reducing coupling nuts from McMaster-Carr.

Simply scratch a shallow groove in the insert before you screw it in place. The groove will make it easy to drill a 1/16" hole to ~1/4" depth. The spring pin will have a tight fit but goes in easy with a tap hammer. Done.

parts:

coupling nut: 1/2-20 x 1.25"

threaded insert: 3/8-16 x 1/2-20

1/16" x 1/4" spring pin

Thanks Greg! Loctite wasn't working, going to give this a try.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
