“I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself.” Might depend on how feral you are.
I am not mocking, just like your user name. Don’t know how long that will take before you can climb. Did my right metacarpals punching in college. Right hand never returned fully to normal. Apparently there are many connecting tissues that need surgery to repair. Never caused me trouble once it stopped hurting.
I don't entirely recommend it, but I did have a boxer's fracture in 2019, and I just climbed in my cast. They had my middle, ring and index fingers hooked at about 45 degrees, so I just used it like a hook and stuck to the gym for a couple weeks until it came off. Expect it will be weaker when you get the cast/splints off and do some gentle stretching as a warm up. The Metolius grip balls were nice to help get some strength and flexibility back. I would say I was back to normal in about 12 weeks though YMMV.
I got a boxer's fracture in my dominant hand, pinky finger metacarpal, broke clean through, with a minor amount of offset. I was climbing easy stuff ~2 months later, but I could tell it wasn't quite right and let it rest a bit more. I was back climbing where I left off about 4 months after the break. It may have been a different story on a more load bearing finger, but no long term issues for me.
