Post limit

This is totally a first world problem and I know the people building this website have real life to attend to, however...

The post limit is pretty frustrating when you're trying to have a discussion. I've not run into this on any other web forum in my last couple of decades of internet-ing.

Somebody has made the decision on post limits, it's not my sandbox and it's not a huge deal BUT a suggestion: can we possibly get a pop-up on our screen when we're at the limit for a thread or day? So I don't bother typing out a whole post that I'm unable to submit.

Thanks for your efforts in keeping MP great :-)

EDIT: I tried to post in my own thread and I'm now over my daily post limit lol

Here it is, copied/pasted from the post limit screen, out of order and poorly formatted without quotes. Woe is me :-)

That would be a step in the right direction I suppose and easier than having to copy it into a file, but discussions move on and if my post is not going to be timely (eg somebody else comes along and answers the question I was trying to answer) I'd rather just not waste time typing it out if possible.

I wouldn't want anybody missing dinner time with their family if this takes extensive high level coding but if it's relatively simple it'd be nice for the user experience IMO.

PLEASE. THIS.

Or I'd be happy if there was a way to have it so you just go to your MP account profile and it would have a section that indicates where you are on the posting limits.

This post limit per thread per day is indeed annoying AF and I never saw it on any other forum

I get around the post limit by consolidating my replies to different people in one post (this happens to me often, because I tend to piss off an entire swarm of people all at once).

A little annoying to read, but it's a good work around

It's a workaround but most people engaged in a thread never go back, they just start back up where they left off, so though it's a workaround, it effectively kills continuing conversation between those already engaged in the thread

Yes, agreed its bad. Especially if you have a stalker who reports you for not agreeing with them. Of course I dont think anyone makes money off of forum circle jerks so that may be a good reason for the limits. It just doesnt matter.

Edit #1 people dont read threads backwards so dont be the gnome

Yes.

A pop-up that you’ve already hit your post limit would be great or not deleting the post you just typed out would be good too.

On the iPhone app, there is no pop-up or acknowledgement that you’ve hit the limit after you click post. If I have no more posts left and I try to post, the app just takes me back to the thread with no indication of why and the attempted post is deleted.

Interesting, I feel like just having a "save as draft" function would be sufficient and probably (idk) easier than a pop up or section on the profile.

Nick, we may all benefit if you just made the post limit 0

Best feature of late added to the forum, IMO.  Lol at the people here complaining.  I also think it should apply to all threads, not just one, and no seniority giving people more posts - those tend to be the very people who should really get fewer posts.  New thread - new day - same damn people saying the same damn thing over and over.

The once or twice I have exceeded, I just copied my message from the warning, so I don't even know what you all are talking about.  I also have a habit of doing Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C to most forms I have put more than a minute into filling out before sending - something crashes, Ctrl-V to notepad - no need to ask someone else to manage your own spew numbers.

Exactly what I was thinking. Thanks for wording it more succinctly in common terms.

Yeah, I request for something similar a while back and it got no traction :-(  Hopefully, it will!

I asked for a Post Counter which just tell you the number of posts you get or have for the day.

An additional post limit annoyance now?

Apparently, it doesn't reset the next day, until some arbitrary time in some unknown time zone. It's strange.

How on earth are you peeps managing in the for sale forum? Does that allow more than three?

It's also interesting to consider the over fifty thread, now in iteration fifteen or so? Oddly, the politics thread is now having long, considered conversations too.

But, whatever. "Discuss MP" forum doesn't appear to be read by whoever "manages" the place now, anyway.

Best, H.

The easiest solution would be to disable the editor when you've reached your post limit

Or have multiple accounts...  Of course, my last one got banned :-/

Some of the mobs of troll accounts that descend on certain threads may be brigades from the more dedicated trolls on this forum. I think that if there is any threat to user experience is having multiple accounts for the purpose of trolling.

Its the Russians!
