Nope. The nonbanned gets hidden too. See the two posts between yours and this one. Nick is forgetting how much some of us like to play, if it comes out nonsense!

Quotes used to sandwich into each other, adding each new comment inside the older ones and cramming more and more content into brackets. We had a heap of fun with that just before it was changed. Got it down to single digits stacked vertically.

This is funny, so far the people I see being hidden are mostly all OK members with mostly good comments.

This reminds me of when I moved to Utah in the 90s and Mormons were still burning books. Apparently if you ban and burn the books they will just magically go away and nobody will have their mind soiled with the likes of Orwell, Salinger and Huxley.

You’ll be relieved to know then that these are not Orwells, Salingers, or Huxleys.

This is great. I came here after leaving rockclimbing.com 13 years ago because its forums had gotten so terrible. While this place has been suffering from a lot of the same issues for a while now too, it got really bad after the influx from ST

Nick - I used another account to make a post and trolls messed with it and flagged all my comments in the thread. This generated a lot of 'bad reputation' for my account and rendered it unusable. Is there any way to prevent people from troll-flagging posts and ruining someone's account?

I think the other changes you made will be useful and good additions to the site.

Read the first post.  Other users can't sabotage your account with this system.

Thanks!

Already LOVING the new ignore feature. Seems like it strikes a great balance between allowing more contentious voices to express their (often inflammatory, counter-productive) input/opinions, but acknowledging that most of us would rather not wade through that content while attempting to participate in a linear, focused conversation.

Just wanted to call out one small dynamic I've found while playing with it, adjusting to it. And also perhaps a small feature tweak.

When you "show comment" on an ignored, minimized comment, the only way to re-hide the comment is to refresh the page. Not a big deal, but if the comment could have a "re-hide" button, that'd be a nice-to-have. Super low priority, though.

Piling on to Helen's comment -- it'd be nice to know if someone has chosen to ignore me, but lots of people (justifiably) ignore me and would never respond to "Hey are you ignoring me?" inquiry anyways, so I'd put my support on not worrying about that dynamic. If someone wants to know if they are being ignored, they can figure it out by trying to reply to a thread that person initiated.

I disagree with those sentiments (and maybe that makes me a naive Michael Scott...), but I'm glad to see you back on here expressing your opinion earnestly, Nick!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
