  1. So I’m currently on a road trip that had taken me through the Great Basin down to Vegas and I’m blown away by the amount of exposed rock in this part of the state. Can someone help me understand the apparent lack of development out here? I am truly just a casual observer so this is not a criticism whatsoever. Is the rock in the southern half of the Great Basin National Park (looks granitic?) climbable? How about the miles of crags (quartzite/limestone?) east of Lund? Is it all choss? Access issues? Thanks for any insight

There's climbing on a lot of the limestone, there's a guide that covers some eastern NV (and southern Utah) crags.  I bet the fact that much of what you saw was 2+ hours from Vegas (nearest major metro) has a lot to do with the scant development.

I also came across some bolted routes when hiking north of Moapa that aren't published anywhere to my knowledge, so there's also that.

Kevins right...theres LOTS of rock in Nevada and very few people in those areas to develop it, most of what you saw is limestone of varying quality(or possibly basalt/rhyolite...ie; rainbow cyn) ...we do have granite but it tends to be more in the center of the state, down south or along the western side of nevada.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
