Just got some Z4's and Z4 offsets and wanted to provide my initial opinion. This is my first set of offset cams and no I haven't been outside with them (and probably wont for a while) but in the northwest basalt and volcanic rock I assume they will be quite handy. In addition to the offsets, I got a .5 regular (its what was in stock). After playing with them for a little bit, bending the stems around, and looking at the lobes I found some interesting things and would be curious if anyone has something similar on their cams. Keep in mind, none of these cams have been outside and were unpackaged about an hour ago.
.1/.2
trigger: firm and squishy. towards the more cammed end, the trigger is very stiff
lobes: round on both. the .1 side lobes look hyperextended. the springs on the axle are quite a bit larger in circumference than the axle itself
other: not impressed with the trigger, curious if others have seem similar things on the lobes
.2/.3trigger: very firm and squishy. cammed end is stiff. quite a bit more force require to retract lobes than .3 C4
lobes: round on both. both ends display hyperextension. similar springs to .1/.2
other: hopefully the trigger loosens up a bit
.3/.4trigger: much better than the smaller sizes. feels more like a regular cam also double axle.
lobes: .4 side is round is .3 is flat the thinnest spot on the .3 lobes seems a bit too thin to me, but who knows. its significantly thinner than any of the others
other: n/a
very easy to see the different geometry here between the .3 and .4
.4/.5trigger: good, a bit of friction from something in the stem, not bad
lobes: this is where things get interesting. both sides have fairly flat lobes. the lobes are different to those of the normal.5 Z4 and the .4 lobes are differen to the .3/.4
other: dont really know what to make of all the different lobe geometry, i will assume the ranges are probably slightly different for the same .size on different cams.
left: .5 Z4
right: .4/.5 Z4
note the small spring hole is in a different location, and the thickness of the lobe near the top is quite different. shape is different too. same size cam lobe, different shape
left: .4/.5
right:.3/.4
lobe shape is different, and the thinnest spot on the lobes is much thinner on the .4/.5
.5/.75trigger: best feeling out of all of them
lobes: .5 is flat, .75 is round
other:
you can really notice the difference on the shape of the lobes here
Overall, not super impressed with the tiny sizes, would be curious to feel the dragonflys and see the difference. the flat lobe is usually on the smaller side of the offset. maybe its a better shape to deal with irregular cracks. Curious to hear peoples thoughts. If anyone has questions or wants more pictures let me know. Im bored.
