Looking to climbing around Bishop or Mammoth Lakes this long weekend. Driving up Friday, leaving Monday.

I can either base in one area or hop around. Looking for the most family-friendly crags. Single pitch, sport or trad. The key is the approach. We have a 2-month-old and three years old.

Also taking recommendation for a few campsite locations. Disperse preferred, but if needed, we'll shoot for a place with reservations.

Emmanuel if you're looking for dispersed camping in Bishop, the buttermilks area has wonderful spots.

If you have a vehicle with decent clearance, check our Clark Canyon. Easy approach, and lots of good climbs close to each other.

Wherever you disperse pick up your poo.  It's going to be a crowded and hot stinky weekend with literally tons of shit everywhere.

Instead of traveling during the long weekend, family and I will take a couple or a few days off next week. Should be less crowded.

Thanks for the advice so far.

Horseshoe Slabs and Sunshine Wall in Mammoth Lakes.  Short approach and kid friendly.  Won't Bishop will be pretty hot?

What you want to know is detailed in Marty Lewis’s Mammoth Lakes guidebook (which lists approach times AND sun/shade info) and was answered in your July post.

Matrimony Wall, Triple Cracks, Looking Wall, Locals Only area of Benton Crags, The Stumps, warming Wall. All easy to get to in a passenger car. Less than 5 minute approaches, reasonably flat bases.

Horseshoe Slab has an easy approach, about 15’ but Sunshine wall has some steep uphill.

Iris Slab in Rock Creek is often recommended fir kids but it’s a longer approach and the base is less level.

Gold Gulley in Pine Creek has an easy 15’ approach and I think will always have some shade spots. Then you will be right next to the stuff on the far left side of PSOM. Tai DeVore’s Pine Creek guidebook is terrific.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
