Butora wide fit vs TC Pro - Forefoot width

If you have experience with both, which provides more room for a wide forefoot? No place to try these on so I'm trying to minimize my orders and returns. I've got a touch of the old Morton's neuroma so I'll take space over performance. If you view my profile you'll see that performance is not a priority:).

TC Pro isn't particularly wide, in my experience. But I don't know about the Butoras. I've tried both the TC and the Evolv General and found the latter to have a wider toe box.

I have a super wide foot and the tc pros have stretched beautifully. They were painfully narrow for a few days but awesome now. I have the toes touching but no curl. I can wear them all day, and they still climb great unlike stretched mythos or something.
The only butoras I’ve tried were the acros in wide, which were not nearly wide enough for me and I could barely finish a few boulder routes before they went back to the demo table. And the rep assured me they will not stretch at all. They seemed great except for the intolerable pain.

Yes they are, TC Pros are just not tall in the toebox and the tongue extends pass where the bottom of the u-throat is. Those factors creates the same sensation on your foot as a narrow shoe. Even a size 42 (US 9) TC pro is wider than a size 10 Evolv General. If you don't believe me find a ruler.

But the Altura (even the non wide version) is one of the few shoes that is wider than the TC pro in the metatarsal area. It's WAY stiffer so if you're under 180lb mark it takes a LONG time to break them in and be able to feel holds under your foot.

Also for something like morton's you could also take your shoes to a legit cobbler and have them stretch them in the areas you need. A mix of heat + stretching post + possibly thinning the rubber rands can get you extra room.

Love my wide butoras, AND their heel bone padding.

You're probably correct. The more proper term for what I'm describing is that the TC pros don't feel particularly ROOMY in the toe box.

Butora Mantra wide. I can't barely even get the wide Acro on my feet (right length is not wide enough), while the Mantras slip.on just fine. Took a while to break in, but ever since I have been very satisfied with them for bouldering.

For reference, for several years, my gotos have been Mythos for outdoors, Cypher Prefix for leading, and for the last couple of years, the Mantras bouldering. The first two are unlined and stretch well (plus the Cyphers are dirt cheap). All the Butora models I've seen have linings, so they don't stretch much, which is worth planning for when sizing.

I am pondering trying TC Pros myself to replace Mythos after 3 resoles, but the Mantras I'll jist have them rebuild the toe and resole. Good luck!

Butora Altura Wide is wider than my TC Pro, sized similarly for length. But I actually wish it were still a bit wider in the toes, and narrower in the heel.

I have both, i had to do a weird double lace to get the tc's to work, the first 4 holes are laced and tied separately from the rest. The altura wides fit great right out of the box.

Thanks for the great feedback all.

I have had the Butora Mantra and Acro both in wide, and found both to have essentially no give and really did a number on my "ring" toe.  I gave them ~2-3 months of 2-3 gym sessions per week before deciding that they were never going to break in enough to be comfortable.  I had bought them sized up at least a half size, also.   My foot shape is wide toe, high arch, narrow heel.

My TC Pros on the other hand broke in great, enough so that they fit snug and comfortable but feel precise sock-less, but I have worn them with socks when climbing on 20-30 degree days in the winter.  I wouldn't say they are wide in the toe, but they are comfortable.

I'm very curious about the Evolv General.  I've been wearing a pair of Oracle's for a while now and love them.

I have a wide foot and tried on both Butora wides and TCs on in a store.  For my dollar the TC was without a doubt more comfortable, it's been a few months since I did this but I believe that despite being "wide" the Butora was more narrow in the toe.  So mid foot felt loose but toes still hurt.  YMMV.

The whole “wide” and “narrow” thing always confused me.  What do you do if you have a wide forefoot and narrow heels?

Not often.  My best luck has been Five Tens for the narrow heel and to tolerate some cramped toes, as their shoes tend to run super narrow.  TC Pros I can use but I have to crank down the laces to avoid loose heels.

When 5.10s came about 25 years ago, I quickly gave up on them as they were too wide for my feet.. Terrible time with them trying to climb hand-sized cracks. I guess it's time to take another look at them.

Not being funny.

Women's version if your foot is small enough. Women's feet on average have a smaller heel volume in relation to their forefoot.

Yeah, I looked into that, but unfortunately, my feet are size 13 and none of the shoe companies make women’s versions that big (even downsized).

Size 12 Pinks vs 46 (12) TC Pros.  TCs are pointier, but the Pinks are much narrower and the fit feels aggressive.

Size 12 HiAngles vs 44 Solutions.

This is the most extreme - Size 13 Blackwings are narrower than size 44 (10.5) Solutions!
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
