Modifying ice axe loop to accomodate ice tools.
|
Has anyone found a clean and easy way to modify those useless mountaineering ice axe loop to accommodate technical ice tools? |

Clip a small biner through the hole in the tool head and then clip it to the loop on the pack. |
|
Or, feed the loop thru the hole in the head of the tool and clip a biner to it, should ride higher.. |

A friend of mine who’s a badass climber always carries his tools in his hands on approaches. I thought that was silly but he’s always ready before me! |

Slide the shaft through the loop toward the ground all the way to the head, flip upside down, clip off shaft to pack. Same for ice axes or tools. |

I have seen many a down jacket get sliced open from people's ice tools sticking off the pack of their pack all willy-nilly. If you have the room, it's usually more polite to carry them around inside your pack. Either way (carrying them outside or inside your pack) you should find tip protectors so you don't accidently destroy some jackets. |
