i have a trip to Colorado coming up in mid  may we are going to be in the golden/Blackhawk area but we can travel. i was wondering what 14er would be best/most likely possible typically during this time of year.   any suggestions or links to usefull information would be much appreciated.

It depends on the storms immediately before your trip.

I think Humbolt would be a pretty good bet, but again, its pretty dependent on the weather and sun.

It'd consider how much snow will be on the mountains too. They were pretty covered last May, hasn't snowed as much this year but still a factor.

Check out 14ers.com

There are trip and peak condition reports; it's extensive and you'll get a lot more info there than on MP.  Mid-may is a bit earlier, but you may get lucky and find something doable

bierstadt.  little avy danger and one year I skied to/from the summer parking lot on memorial day!  Quandry would be another great option, again little avy danger, you can start at summer lot and there will be a trench if there is snow.  You won't be the only one on quandry.  probably not on bierstadt either (but plan on the winter closure).  most others involve some extra mileage until the summer trailheads get melted out, although I think many people are now making it to the summer trailhead for humboldt.

check out 14ers.com and their conditions page.  https://www.14ers.com/php14ers/peakstatus_main.php  they also have a trailhead conditions report.  You need to check both, as some people only update one or the other, but not both.  https://www.14ers.com/php14ers/trailheadsmain.php

Quandary. Straightforward hike with an easy drive that get lots of sun and is a common winter condition 14er. It being a common hike in the winter makes it very likely that you wont have to do much (or any) trail breaking or route finding in the snowy sections. Be warned though big may storms are not uncommon so you might be hiking through more snow than you bargained for. Plus beer is only a short drive away (Lets be real that the most important metric to consider)

I think Humbolt would be a pretty good bet, but again, its pretty dependent on the weather and sun.

Also fair warning Humblot might be a longer hike than it seems on 14ers.com depending on the condition of the 4 wheel drive road.

+1 for beirstadt too. Beer metric applies here as well...

Beirstadt is generally accessed from Guanella Pass, which usually isn't plowed until late may, so your RT would be 6 additional miles I believe? This makes the difficulty/accessibility a little harder.

Justin, they're easy miles.  Well traveled, well packed down.  I don't think it is quite 6 miles RT, but it may be.  I think my wife and I made it up on skis to the summer trailhead in like 30-45 mins, I don't remember it being some uber slog...you can also cut a bit off if you venture off the road.  reading a contour map reveals the best and quickest way...

Just trying to pass on info to someone visiting. If they read a route description and find access to the summer TH is not available, well, what would you do?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
