Petzl Sitta Durability Issues

I recently purchased a Petzl Sitta Harness to use for ice season. I've used it exactly 6 times and one of the ice clipper slots is already tearing... Is anyone else having problems?

Light weight does not always mean durable, I trashed one climbing a chimney once.

Cheap, light, durable.  Pick two.

I think in this situation it is more like "pick one".

Stitching coming loose

Starting to tear.

Just 6 days on ice. Sad.

Well looking at that photo, it actually makes perfect sense, it is very clearly underdesigned.

It is basically just doubled over low denier ripstop straight stitched to the exact same way to thin fabric. No way its not going to tear.

That harness was not designed for daily use.

I imagine installing those DMM Vaults would accelerate wear on those ice clipper slots. The great thing about the Vaults is they strong and have no give so you don’t lose your screws or tools. He problem with that is if you install them on a lightweight harness and the Vault gets caught on something it will tear flimsy material.

I second that. Looks like those vaults are putting a lot of stress on those slots. I imagine it's an extremely tight fit from the looks of those pics. I have the sitta and use BD ice clippers and the caritools and haven't had the same issue you've been experiencing. My advice would be to switch to a different clipper, and contact Petzl. They'll probably swap you out.

Good points about the vaults. I really do love them, and I get a lot of piece of mind with my screws on them. I'm not sure I'm willing to exchange that for maybe half a pound of weight savings. I'll contact Petzl, but this may be a deal breaker for me. The other lightweight harnesses (Mammut Zephir Alpine)  I have had have been a lot more durable in this area. But I think both you and Kirby are likely right..

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
