Zach Raney wrote: Go to any hardware store and get a small assortment of cold chisels/punches. The set shouldn't be more than $10-$15. Drill holes for tethers if desired. Using a pedestal grinder, grind one of the chisels into a "butterknife". Dip the chisel in water frequently while grinding to ensure that the heat treatment isn't ruined. This is a good guide for heading: https://www.mountainproject.com/forum/topic/106076091/dr-pitons-heading-tips To make sawed angles you literally saw an angle piton approximately in half to facilitate shallow placements. Make sure to deburr the cut after sawing. |

Here's where you can buy a head kit with everything you need http://www.fishproducts.com/catalog/hooks_heads.html Here's how to use it. http://www.fishproducts.com/tech/instructions/hmkins.pdf Just as apoet said, Cut them in half. Make sure to not heat them up when you do if you use a grinder. I'm sure you can find what you need without cutting them yourself. Hell, I'd be willing to sell off my sawed offs if you really need them. |

(but they're expensive in exchange for the convenience.) |

As far as placing heads in Yosemite goes, unless you are on an advanced route, you will probably NOT need to place a head. I have removed dozens of useless heads and have climbed past many, many others, via clean means. Please think twice, three and four times before placing a head. |
