Some using the calico basin as a shooting range?

I was walking around on the edge of calico basin today and I cut up through the gully across from the fringe and found it to be fairly littered with 9mm brass. There was quite a bit of it enough to make you think it was more than a one time "lets just go back there and shoot". I don't know the rules on that sort of thing...but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you cant do that lol , I could easily see people walking on the trail from where I found the pile in the picture. Just a heads up if you find yourself out that way

Was bouldering at Kraft a couple of Sundays ago and heard shots from that area. Waited around to see who it might be. Two guys and a girl walked out from that direction with a pistol case talking in Spanish about shooting and pistols.

Drove away in this:

From the BLM website...

The Southern Nevada District Office offers many opportunities for target shooting and hunting on public lands. While shooting is legal on most public lands, there are no designated shooting areas. Public lands are multiple-use and other people and livestock may be present, so please follow these guidelines:

• You must be at least 1,000 feet from roads and houses
• Never shoot from or over any road or highway
• Always use a safe backdrop
• Glass targets are prohibited
• Carry in your targets and carry out all litter, brass and shell casings

While most public lands are available for shooting, there are several exceptions. Shooting is not allowed in the following areas managed by the Southern Nevada District Office:

• Apex
• Nellis Dunes
• Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
• Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area
• Sunrise Mountain

Within the Las Vegas Valley, shooting is not allowed. The boundaries are:

• North – Apex on I-15 or Lee Canyon on US 95
• South – Sloan Exit on I-15 or mile marker 14.5 on State Route 604
• East – National Park Service’s Lake Mead National Recreation Area
• West – U.S. Forest Service’s Spring Mountains National Recreation Area

Please note that drinking alcohol and shooting weapons can be considered an unsafe act. In addition, additional weapons restrictions and definitions apply in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

If you would like more information on hunting on public lands, please contact the Nevada Division of Wildlife at 702-486-5127 to obtain a permit.

If you see or hear someone shooting in any of the restricted areas get to area with cell coverage and call the BLM and/or Law Enforcement. I called on some people I thought were tagging rocks with graffiti in Calico Basin and they responded in minutes! The number for the BLM office is 702-515-5000, or just call 411.
