Curt 2004(?) provides testimony for Bela Olhaos on top of Black Orpheus (no sound, so you gotta read lips 0:14 to 0:18):

Sardines only cause problems at the crag. One time, this guy at the crag offered me a sardine, when I went to pick one out of the can I cut my finger on the sharp edge and I almost bled. Obviously, my climbing day was ruined. Another time some dude had some sort of oily canned fish and some of the oil got on my pack. I had to throw away all soft gear in the pack: rope, harness and slings. I’m still a little sketched out using the hardware! Another time I was working a sick route when some newb comes around eating sardines. Without washing his hands, he gets on my proj! I was actually quite scared that he would grease up the crux sloper, so I grabbed my stick clip and started smacking him with it! His belayer was all, “Dude, chill, my bro can onsight this.” I mean can you believe that? Just because he can onsight my proj he thinks he can jiz up the crux sloper with his greasy sardine hands?!? I’ve even heard about a crag that was closed because of sardines. All I’m saying is that if you choose to bring sardines climbing, those sardines are capable of causing problems. And guess what, it’s not the sardines fault, it’s your fault. If you must take canned fish to the crag it has to be white albacore tuna in spring water. And, it must be in one of those new-fangled pouches, not a can!

I'll bring some baby wipes from here on out just in case we're eating sardines and you're around

That's some funny shit, and why I suggested baby wipes!!

I do like albacore, yum yum. Here's one of those analogy things:

---edit---

Albacore in a foil bag is to sport climbing as sardines in a can is to _____________.

+1 for Kippers (Brunswick brand if possible). These little beauties are produced in Atlantic Canada within an hour of my house in a small fishing village called Black's Harbour. Last fall I was PSYCHED to find them in a grocery on my way into Yosemite Valley. That small smoked fish was eaten 2700 miles and 7600 feet from where it was canned... and it was damn well appreciated!

I guess I am all about "breaking the rules"........ don't like albacore in spring water so much...... I much much rather bring sardines in a can....... oily and stinky!!!! Yummy!!!!

I've jumped around with Sardine brands (Crown Prince, King Oscar etc.), but now I've settled on the Vital Choice sardines (I get them here: vitalchoice.com/shop/pc/hom…). They even use organic olive oil for packing, plus they're much higher in omega 3s compared to other brands.

I wouldn't be buying anything bigger than sardines because of the high mercury (tuna and salmon are tasty, but heavy in mercury).

On that omega 3 tip, there was a sample lady at the Denver WF who told us most sardines are double boiled to get as much omega 3 out for those oil supplement bottles and capsules. I forget which brand it was, but a little searching would find you one. It would be like first cold pressed evo vs processed refined blended olive oil.

Omega 3:6 balance eliminates inflammatory responses in the body.

I am with the above poster about fishing up the crags. Like smokin tobacco at the crag, just a little wrong. This guy at work clears rooms with his anchovies.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
