The Rampart Range Road closes seasonally on the December 1st or during the week after Thanksgiving and reopens in the spring, usually around May 1st. They do this regardless of snow conditions.

It seems that in recent years the USFS has made an effort to keep the road closed as late as possible in the spring so that they don't actually have to get out of the ranger cabin and do anything. This year when the road finally did open there was absolutely no snow even at the highest elevations in the Rampart Range. Perhaps some effort to get folks to call and pester the USFS will get them going earlier in 2011.

You can go around the gate if you have an ATV all winter and go wherever you want.........

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
