I am looking to replace some of my quickdraws. I climb more trad then sport and also ice. I am leaning towards the firewires.

If you climb alot of trad look at the positron draws. They dont have notches so they don't ever get caught up on wires. Plus there light.

Coop Also look at the Metolius Inferno Draw 2 wiregate biners that are light and strong, but also a good size for gloved hands when ice climbing. As for BD I would go with the firewire for trad and maybe get a couple of the hotwire draws for the start of steep sport routes. I would also look at the Camp orbit mixed dyneema draw. I have some of these and really like the way they work. Dallen

When is Petzl going to release their wiregate? I saw it at the Redstone Ice Festival last winter and it looks sweet.

I've used hotwires for years. Trad, Alpine, Big Walls, Ice, Sport. They have always work great for me! Not a clean gate but I find that to be more of a benefit when cleaning overhanging or traversing sport as opposed to trad climbing.

So in order to form my own opinion I think I might purchase a few of each: BD Firewire Metolius Inferno Draw Camp orbit mixed dyneema draw

Simond came out with a carabiner just like that a few years back...I can't remember the name, but I saw it in an old R&I this morning.

Wild Country Heliums can't be beat. The only drawback is their cost, but you get what you pay for.
