It's an hour and a half drive, but go through Castle Rock. Google maps can show you the route. You come down Rampart Range Road from the north. Don't try driving that road from the Springs, the washboarding is horrible.
Take 105 up from Palmer Lake towards Sedalia to Jackson Creek Road; JCR then hooks up with Rampart Range, this way you'll eliminate about 10 miles of backtracking. Definitely don't bother with coming up from the Garden on Rampart Range. However, DH is not a good rainy day destination
