August 9-19th: Switzerland moderate climbs

Howdy everyone, I'm 33 years old from the Seattle area. Looking for partners for intermediate alpine routes such as Hornli ridge on the Matterhorn.

Other peaks in mind are Grand Combin, and Weissmies. I've done dozens of glacier climbs including Denali, Mount Rainier, Alpamayo, Mount Sanford, Bulger list (Washington top 100), Glockglossner, Eiger, Pisco, Urus, Ishinca, Iceland HP, Mount Hood in winter, Torment Forbidden Traverse, Johannesburg, and so much more. Some of my alpine talents are navigation, dealing with loose rock, and leading the team through challenges.

You might already be aware, but if not: heatwaves have wrought havoc on the Mont Blanc massif this year so please make sure your intended climbs are in condition at all. It got so bad the exit cave on the Midi is closed at the moment. 

Good point Victor. I'll save Mont Blanc for another year and go earlier. Saw August reports on previous years - but this year is dry all around.

If anyone wants to join for the Matterhorn next week, there's a good weather window. Post above rewritten for a better main objective. Moderate granite alpine routes are the new goals.

There are serious safety concerns on the Matterhorn as well due to high risk of rockfall.  I believe there are warnings by local authorities to avoid climbing in these conditions.  Good luck.

I have been told that Swiss guides have stopped guiding the Matterhorn because it is too dangerous owing to conditions. Be warned.

Yes, massive rockfalls on the Italian side as well. I wouldn't set foot on the mountain (or anything held together with permafrost) this summer. Carefully chosen alpine granite is the solution if you want to climb high in the Alps at the moment.

Thank you everyone. I'm not going to the Matterhorn and will continue to look for granite peaks. Ironically I chose August as other years were good. July having more snow on the route, being concerned about traffic jams. When the mountain speaks, one must listen.
