I carry mace specifically because people can't control their very aggressive dogs (especially poorly trained pits and sheppards). rather the dog owner have a 3k vet bill to get their pets eyes flushed out than me get an infected dog bite. Mace seems to be the sweet spot between humane (no permanent injury to the dog) and effectiveness (keeping those gross teeth away from you). Never had to use it thankfully but had a close call one time that made me decide to keep it on me |

Story from the crag: I was belaying my partner, who was engaged on a 12b and cruxing out. My pack was right by my feet and my lunch was in a nylon bag inside my pack; another member of our party, another strong climber whom I had just met that day, was standing next to me watching our friend above when her dog, Fluffy, decided to explore the contents of my backpack and drag my lunch sack out. Me: "Hey Fluffy, cut that out!" I'm trying to belay but also shoo the dog away with my foot. A wild animal. This was years ago and I still remember that woman's description of her dog. This is a woman who took "maternity leave" from work when she first got Fluffy to nurture him as a puppy and train him from a young age, but now he was a wild animal. |

You should have kicked the dog John RB. Then she could have sort of smacked you across the back and did weird slapping and inefective punching things. Then you could have retaliated in desperation, and it all could have escalated. Then another member of the party could have pepper sprayed Sue, with little effect. And all this time the climber above would have been cruxing, and Fluffy would jhave been enjoying a sandwich! Classic |

Story from the crag: I was belaying my partner, who was engaged on a 9b and cruxing out. My pack was right by my feet and my lunch was in a nylon bag inside my pack; another member of our party, Bob whom I had just met that day, was standing next to me watching our friend above. Bob's kid, decided to explore the contents of my backpack and drag my lunch sack out. Me: "Hey kid, cut that out!" I'm trying to belay but also shoo him away with my foot. A climber!. This was years ago and I still remember Bob declaring his kid a climber. This is a man who took "parental leave" from work when his child was born to nurture him as a child and train him from a young age, but now he was a climber. |

apogeewrote: at least put a leash on it |

Or just leave the thread at home. Dog threads don't belong on MP. |

apogeewrote: No!!! Keep it free!!! Threads deserve to go where they go... |

Whoever fights the unleashed crag dogs should see to it that in the process they do not become an unleashed crag dog. And gaze at the unleashed crag dog long enough the unleashed crag dog will gaze back. |

Eli Chasewrote: How dare you suggest such a hateful thing! Here is a picture of a crag dog thread: As a matter of fact, I love my crag dog thread and I don’t even know you. So that means crag dog threads deserve all the rights that climbers have. Did I just blow your mind? In lieu of reasons, I give you two more pictures of the same crag dog thread: |
