It's wild, though not at all unbelievable that people are so dumb as to make this mistake when putting that screw combo back into the unit.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge. Most people can't even put together IKEA furniture correctly the first go (myself included) so idk things happen 🤷.

We all make mistakes and I'm sure the manual isn't very clear (why they released a statement/liability reasons/who the heck reads that anyway). I don't own one, but you don't have to set this pin yourself correct? Only when changing the sling or whatever ?

Yup, only when changing out the sling

What safety equipment manufacturer allows customers to change a safety critical part such as a sling themselves?  I am not aware of any company that does this until I saw this.  It does not matter how much you write a clear manual and have many pictures showing the work, some customers are just so incompetent that they will do it wrong.  There is no check against this except to not allow customers to do critical work on safety equipment.

On the product page they have a video which clearly shows how to inspect and replace the sling. It starts at 9:30 in this video

I'd argue that if you can't figure this out then you probably shouldn't be climbing.

With right-to-repair being a slowly vanishing concept kudos to Edelrid for providing clear instructions to the end user.

People are allowed to change their tires, if those things come off on the road they can become flying death missiles.

Wait, you never replaced dogbones on your QDs?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
