Current conditions at Tahquitz & Suicide Got about 2-3" of precip down in town out of this recent rain event- current temps in the mid-40's, with a light breeze. Tahquitz got some frosting out of it, and over at Suicide Rock, the Weeping Wall is...weeping. Good training for the Eiger! |

Southridge Road closure Heads up: the rain events over the holidays dislodged a massive boulder along the Southridge Road, virtually blocking the road. This affects access to the Southridge bouldering area, and the trailheads at the top of the road. This is about 1/2 mile up the road, and access at the bottom is now gated and locked. No word on how long this closure will last- besides this obstruction, the road has become even more deteriorated due to rain damage. |

Idyllwild Climbers Alliancewrote: Lets hope they get this fixed quickly. Over the years there have been times only 4wd would get you up to the parking spot. I like it better when its like that. |

Kellen Millerwrote: The precipitation events over the holiday, combined with relatively warm temperatures resulted in the conditions you can see in the photo above from January 5. Since that time, there has been a no new precip of any kind, and temperatures have remained the same. As a result, there is nothing even remotely resembling ice on Tahquitz Rock right now. |

An update on current conditions at Tahquitz & Suicide Rocks can be found here at our website Tahquitz/Suicide conditions, 3-18-26 Also a remembrance to Bruce Watts, longtime Idyllwild local, and someone many of us encountered at Nomad Ventures over the years. |

There is no snow on Tahquitz. Even the North Face area is free of snow. The exception is the North Gully descent which has about 6-8 inches of very hard snow and is totally covered, top to bottom. Crampons and ice axe would be required to ascent or descent the North Gully. The South side is totally dry. These are late May or early June conditions. Temps in town high 70 s to low 80s. Tahquitz and Suicide are 100% climbable. |

We in Idyllwild dearly miss Bruce Watts. He lived here for many years, worked as a cook at several restaurants (Incl Gastronome), worked at Nomad Ventures for many years. Bruce was great vegetarian cook with interests in flowers, butterflies and all things in nature. RIP. Idyllwild Historical Society 2009 Climbers meeting. Bruce Watts on the right. |

How many of us "dirt bag" climbers scored the best deals from Bruce? He was awesome. RiP |
