Hey there, we are doing a one week trip to Lisbon Portugal and are trying to climb a few of the days! We have heard if you go in our south there is great rope climbing, but to avoid having to pack all the gear, we decided we would stick to bouldering in the Sintra area.  We are planning to do public transit for the trip and not have a car, but we are down to hike far and wanted to get to places was wondering if anyone has been there and has recommendations for the best climbing areas and the most scenic spots and honestly, if anyone’s been there just any recommendations. We heard there is a gear rental place in sintra so we are planning to rent our crash pad once we arrive to town! All recommendations and advice would be so welcomed and loved!

I have spent a lot of time bouldering in that area. I strongly suggest renting a car or hiring a guide through Sintra Boulder Shop. Stuff is really spread out with steep, long, unpleasant approaches using public transportation.

If you don't rent a car, I suggest renting pads in Lisbon. Then taking the train to Cascais. From there walking to the beach bouldering. Baía do Mexilhoeiro is amazing, try to go at low tide. Farol Da Guia is further away and pretty good. I suggest renting bikes to get there.

Good advice above.  Right now there are still plenty of downed trees from the recent storms, so road access is limited.

Oh my! Such great advice thanks so much. I was totally under the false impression that the bouldering would be quick hikes off of the bus system out of Sintra so this is very helpful! We are going to reach out about a guide since we won’t have a car to see if that ends up making the most sense! I am looking into the Cascais area now as that sounds right up our alley! I think after looking at it, we will be renting a guide in Centra per your advice on one day and then on a different day. Take the direct train from Lisbon to Cascais and explore there! We will try to get there in the late morning and leave in the early evening to catch the low tide! Thank you so much for informing and helping for our trip 💙

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
