Skots alfifi - is this the must have piece of gear?

Anything to make life on the wall more efficient and meaningful must be a good thing. Is this piece of gear all it's cracked up to be? Oliver Tippet seems to love it. |

Yup |

I was working bolt ladders a few years ago and thought I couldn't get my time down anymore. I moved from adjustable daisies to the alfifi and my time dropped by ~20%. If you don't want to waste unnecessary time on lead absolutely buy an alfifi. The time savings are significant and measurable. Also it's an amazing tool for all sorts of shenanigans in aid climbing. You'll find all sorts of great, time saving uses for it once you got it. I love it for lower outs for example, and I have heard all sorts of novel uses where it saves time over other solutions from other, more experienced wall climbers. |

I'm emotionally attached to my alfifi. As Ricky said theres all kinds of uses for it. It's heavy AF, but worth it. -Clipped into your upper daisy in the wrong spot for jugging in space? Alfifi to the ascender and fix your daisy. -Mini lowerouts when you don't want to jump a piece. Fifi in direct to piece, unclip rope, let out fifi, pop the piece. -Bounce testing low with your hips -Belay positioning. -utencil for eating -Back scratcher -Weapon for fighting other parties on The Nose. |

There are only two essential pieces of gear that EVERYONE on this forum needs, and one of them is Skot Richard's Alfifi. It is one of the four great aid climbing innovations of the new millennium, and it will make you a better aid climber. |

skot's alfifi revolutionized the way I aid climb. I am now climbing more efficiently and saving my hands from getting wasted. The fact that one can wear out the sling and even the cam teeth and send it back to slot for new parts means the alfifi will last a lifetime, unlike the Yates adjustables that wear out after a wall or two and then you have to replace it. all of the Yosemite elite are using the al wifi. 'nuff said. |

If you have to ask, youll never know. If you know, you need only ask. |

I run adjustable daisies and a regular fifi and am pretty satisfied with my system. There's a lot to be gained from dialing in what you've got. Though maybe one day I'll give the alfifi a try and see the light... |

Charles Winsteadwrote: Ka-CHING! [Hee hee] As for the corkscrew, I have forgotten it a few times. So you have to take your jacknife and kind of wiggle it into the cork, as far as you can without pushing the cork into the bottle. Then you begin simultaneously rotating the cork with the knifeblade as you pull outwards, spiraling out the cork. It works! |

An Alfifi is a must on any aid climb, it makes it 1000% faster and easier |

and if you're curious, having a friend try the Black Diamond Speedfi, and then using my alfifi, he is now going to buy an alfifi. |
