Hey everyone, I’m looking for a good guidebook for the major areas in Northeast california, specifically in the mount shasta area (castle crags, etc.) The only guidebook i’ve been able to find is Mount Shasta Area Rock climbing, from 2014. I’d ideally like to find something a little newer, and I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations.

Hey Nick,

You will not find much. That was the last guidebook to print for the area and was pulled off the market due to a lawsuit between authors. Honestly there hasn’t been a whole lot of development since then. I live in the area and I am somewhat leading the new development movement and bolt replacement efforts. Also the lack of information online is not by accident. I have not posted many new routes due to the respect for the previous gen of developers here and their internet sharing concerns. Send me a private message if you have any questions about  beta or specifics in the area. I am more than willing to spray on anything. I am also the president of the new LCO for the area and if you become a member there maybe an avenue for better information sharing in the future. Cheers

The Shipman guide (presumably the 2014 book you're referring to) was kind of a piece of shit anyways. Maybe useful for orienting yourself but the author plagiarized a bunch of information and clearly had no first-hand (or second hand) knowledge of a lot of routes in the book. Long story short, I don't think you're missing much not having it.
