New Petzl Cams and Spirit Wiregates
|

Watching Fabi Buhl's new video a spotted the new Petzl cam's (7:08) and what appears to be new Spirit wire gates (7:42)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmkktMkKT7I |

That patent shows the stem material being replaceable...that big ass white shroud would make sense since because those parts can't be bonded together.... nice easter egg. EDIT: Speed holes present on the grey....none of those orange ones are spirits. |

Long time stalker, first time poster. Couldn't resist to share what I found with fellow gear nerds. Didn't know how to create a link! Yes the orange biners are not Petzl but the grey appear to be very similar to Spirits. I assume dropping the Ange single wire design. |

GREAT GREAT JOB |

Cool looking. Anybody who has analyzed the can a lot know if it provides any niche benefit over current market options? Not seeing a reason to buy right now. Maybe it’s light? |

that guy named sebwrote: prototype, no paint yet, hence the prototype comment. you got anything to contribute other than a smart ass comment? |

Mr Rogerswrote: That looks like a blue ice style Alpine runner, as there's a matching biner above clipped to a cam |

Can't wait to own a set or two of Petzl's cams! I really hope the Spirit wiregates have some sort of snag-free feature |

Joshua Brownwrote: Serviceable stem that has Dyneema or other light weight material as its core....and it mentions in the patent individual loading (cam pairs), like totem. |

Kyle MacKrellwrote: Just to be clear....They won't be actually painting anything. Stem, lobes, or otherwise. |

I doubt they will colour the stem, it adds needles supply chain complexity, unless they dial in the stiffness of the stem for each cam (doubt it) but this then opens up risks off mismatching replacement stems. The white is probably just white because that's a standard engineering plastic colour. Pretty weird wire gate, originally petzl claimed no wire gates passed their internal standard hence the toothpick design. Marketing BS? Probably, but it doesn't really look like a Petzl product, I also don't see it doing well against the two big budget options Camp photon: 30g DMM spectre: 33g Both these biners are budget choices and unless petzl is planning on devaluing their brand and lowering prices I can't see this new wire gate being popular. I think it'd have to be 28g for a notched gate or 30g if it ends up being a clean nose. Assuming comparable prices to the Ange S. |

|
The new DMM Wisp is supposedly going to be 22g too which is further competition. |

Nice find.. |

Khoiwrote: If the photo is representative, sure doesn't appear to be, although it def looks a little smoother than say bd miniwires. The spirit solid bent gates are light enough to be my favorite racking biner at present, don't see these wiregates changing that. Joe, that Wisp sounds nice in theory but for the love of gawd, can DMM pleeeeease bring back the Trad Alpha Light biners? best mini biner around, no question (apologies to the Ange S, but it doesn't clip as smoothly) |

The carabiner does look like a wire gate spirit, my guess is that it's an ultra light carabiner, similar to the edelrid 19g or camp nano or black diamond nano wire, but to me it doesn't really make sense that petzl is going to release a normal wire gate |
