Niche or weird climbing gear

Certainly not weird, maybe orthogonal to niche, but back when I climbed trad and climbed in the Gunks, the tri-cams up to the blue or brown (whichever was largest)* were great!.

*: that was in the 80's - I have no idea if the colors have changed since.

The Chock Tocker was from around 1980. The Chouinard nut pick was produced only in 1985. Below are a few other hammer-ish nut tools, the infamous Forrest Bam and the Pika Nutbuster.

Without niche climbing gear, collectors would be unhappy, even desperate   .

For decoration, I hope! I love niche or obscure gear, but even I had to admit that the 2 lobe splitter cams suck. The lobes are wide, so they don't sit well in non uniform cracks, and then I felt like they walked/rotated extremely easily. I think it would have to be an extremely unique placement where they do better than anything else.

In Germany we call it UFO or Uforing.

It's used in ares like the Elbsandsteingebirge, were you're not allowed to use cams or any other metal gear because it damages the soft sandstone. We primarily use cut-offs from old ropes and slings with a figure eight in them, to stuff them in to cracks. It's quite unique I think...

It was a strip of tape grommeted together into a wrist loop. The grommet was sized so it was very difficult to get it off due to the bend in the hook.

No. The top wedge pulls down into the lower section, expanding it so that it wedges under force in the rock. These come in multiple sizes and several different styles.

You can also just use the little upper wedge. But then it's just a normal stopper. And it's often quite hard to get in the crack, because of the other part dangling around.
