Anyone heard about this accident? Is this just another day in Yosemite?

(The climber seems to be pretty doped up on painkillers)

From across the valley, I saw the helicopter hovering around El Cap Spire. Been wondering what happened and what the outcome was and was glad to hear the climber was okay when I saw another article about it.

Seeing helicopters in the valley is a regular occurrence from what I've seen, but having to do a rescue like that halfway up El Cap is less common.

HA. I was at the alcove when this all went down. It was a party of 3. The guy was leading the sewer pitch on Salathe and was back cleaning a lot apparently. His partners didn’t know exactly what happened but our guess was that he weighted an old piece of tat and blew, causing him to have a nasty fall. Compound fractured his arm. Blood everywhere on the sewer and lower pitches down to the spire. SAR shot him up with ketamine and he went crazy for a few minutes. Then lifted him off. Kind of cool to see a chopper that close to the spire.

We spent the night on the spire with his two partners. He got in contact with them that night and was reported to be doing good.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
