Balkans - (Bosnia & Albania)
|

Hey all looking for any beta for the Balkan region, specifically Bosnia and Albania. There is a good book for Bosnia that I've looked at that I need to buy. There is one zone called Blagaj that I honed in on which seems ideal but know little about. It's outside of Mostar. I will be traveling to this region in about a month in my van and spending a month or two there. Since winter will be setting in I will be trying to stick to lower Elevation warmer crags. Anyone else going to be in this region? |

Here's the current guidebook (we bought it in Banja Luka last fall): We did a drive by of Tijesno Canyon and then bailed for another place across the highway. Was a head on crash (car hit semi truck) we managed to luckily get around right after it happened so bailed south and continued our journey. Nice looking area. The infrastructure at the top of Tijesno looked nice for a longer trip. Here's the signboard near the parking lot: In Albania, Gjipe could be worth a longer stay. Scout the road before driving down. Was pretty rough when we were there a few years ago. Have a great trip! |

Thanks for the reply's. Unfortunately I don't use Facebook, but that is a good idea. As far as Gjipe, Albania, it looks pretty awesome. What is the situation there as far as van camping? Good cell service? It looks fairly remote getting out to the beach. |

If you make it to Tiranë, Albania go to the climbing gym. The folks who develop the nearby crags will be there. |

Forrest wrote: Not remote as much as rural. Seems to be a gob of private land or at least houses sprinkled about. Rumor has private vehicles aren't allowed to drive down to the beach. Might be a good thing...we saw nothing but fairly sturdy looking 4wd's when we were there. Dunno about van camping but there's a few campgrounds in the area. Can't recall cell service but it was a few years back. Seems pretty quiet in the off season. Maybe give Nick a shout (he built most of the more recent areas at Gjipe). Cheers! |
