Every time that I see Al Rubin mentioned without the Rubin I think that we're talking about artificial intelligence.

I actually thought, at first, that this was a dig at one of the "Giants" on this thread until I realized that it was in reference to Artificial intelligence and not Al Rubin!!!

Covering the bunk pile before the rain. If you have never done this  its an experience. Every single one of those tires is filled with the nastiest disgusting slime water. A mix of rotten sileage and cow shit . Every single tire has to be placed by hand. they dump a load of shit covered tires on the pile and you simply wade in there and start tossing them into place . with every throw the  slimy shit water splashes in every direction.  Naturally I was done work for the day and had already showered and was wearing my good clothes and crocks but you cant stand around and watch folks do that kind of work so I am doing laundry today..  Dinner was beef stew and cucumber salad from the farm.  Pretty sure about half the crew didn't wash their hands....  

We ran away from the trailhead at 1:45am with a plan to be at Italy pass for first light and scramble to the summit of Mt Julius Caesar for sunrise. As usual, Etienne led the way, somehow knowing exactly where we were going. Later, we rested and enjoyed the beautiful meadows below, then jogged home thankful for the experience.

Glad you are well. I have been training lightly for ice and to keep my shoulders stretched out. I have a strip of wood near the ceiling for my ice tools and another on the floor. I start with the big reach from the floor to get the tools up on that high bar. then I do calf raises and easy supported hangs. then I get my feet up on a thin higher  rail that is knee height . Once I am up there I do tool switches and one armed hangs etc. Its in exactly the spot that you would not want your feet for placing a screw so if I can hang one handed for 20 seconds and then do a pull up to place my other tool and hang two handed tor 20 seconds and then match and switch to the other arm and repeat it should make the transition to ice season a little less painfull..  it is like haveing my feet where my knees are in this first photo..

They put him back on the air because of Business decisions. Data Science found that number of people “googling how do I cancel Disney+ etc” increased significantly enough to put him back on air.

He’d likely have gone to Italy “Where Kimmel stated  has free speech” then made a fortune on YouTube hits.

Long time stalker, 1st time poster (in the >50)

Have any of you old farts start learning a new language in your later years? Is it possible or am i (as usual) just not wanting to commit to the big dyno/investment and commit? Is it possible to still learn? I have no dreams of becoming fluent, I just want to be able to communicate well enough to get by.

Fwiw, I started studying French just over a year ago. Have gone from A1ish to low B2. I can hold a conversation with a patient French speaker and easily get by in day to day life. Hoping for C1 some day. I’m 68 if that matters to you.

I do work fairly hard at it, it’s not easy.
But definitely possible.

I really recommend Italki. 

Hoping to add tourist Spanish this winter for a trip to Albarracin :-)

How'd you keep your shoes dry for the start?

I have been climbing a lot of rap bolted moderate climbs this summer.  40 years ago I would have been butthurt by the very existence of such routes. Now I only get buuthurt if it’s rap bolted poorly.

yah it's almost that time of year where I'm back to "that guy with the wooden ice tools" in the climbing gym...

Thanks! It is quite picturesque up where that block is. I was able to stand on the rock at the base, lean across to some holds and pull on. Its kind of like the route (I think) called “loose lips” at Whitehorse Ledge. 

Well, if you fall off of Loose Lips, it won't be into water or into boulders!!!
Etienne surely isn't 'camera shy'!!!!

Fortunately I didn’t fall off loose lips or that boulder. I’m hoping that loose lips is the climb with the move I’m thinking of, I know that it was over near Ethereal Crack. I usually have a good memory for climbs, but it has been 26 years since I last climbed at Whitehorse. I love that NH granite. 

Thanks about the photos. Yeah, Etienne is pretty self aware and fits in with his surroundings well.

He has grown up exploring the beautiful Sierra Nevada. He is super curious and sensitive and completely in love with running high in the mountains. I hope that you see our reply, MP’s 3 post limit make it tough to keep the conversations flowing. 

Edit to answer Kristian Solem below: Etienne is a traditional Chinese Shar Pei. He is from the fifth generation of Shar Pei pups that his breeder carefully created. His grandfather is an original Shar Pei from Hong Kong. His breeder used the corresponding generational letter of the alphabet as the first letter of her pups name. His grandma is Charlotte, his mother is Diana, and he is Etienne. His sisters are Eden and Estelle, and his brother is Eminem.lol.His breeder is super in tune with her dogs and we got to know her for more than a year before Etienne was born. She picked Etienne to be our boy and it’s cool how he matches us and our environment here in California. Etienne is the English equivalent of Stephen in French. Yeah, the wife and I are Shar Pei nerds.
