I broke my scapula, four ribs, clavicle, punctured my left lung and suffered other miscellaneous indignities in a fall in Yosemite. The scapula took the longest to heal. For months afterward, people would come up to me and tearfully hug me with a bro-pat on my back right on my scapula and it would send me to the floor in pain.

Holly sh** man.....and I thought I had it bad with just my broken scapula. You definitely take the cake. I'm gald you made a full recovery. How long would you say it took the scapula completely to recover? I'd like to get back to climbing asap.

It probably took 6 months or more for my scapula to heal to the point where it didn’t hurt to lean up against something or get a pat on the back in that area.
i had my clavicle repaired 6 weeks after my accident…

I was back in a climbing gym in a couple months. Weak, but still able to pull down.

Update, saw and spoke with my orthopedic surgeon today and he said, my bone displacement isn't too bad. No surgery required and that I should be back to climbing in a few months. All n all he said I got fairly lucky.

Update 10-23-25

As of now, 1 month 22 days since the accident took place, as you can see my scapula has greatly healed and is about 70% healed. My orthopedic surgeon has told me I can start doing light climbing on top rope. My arm feels so much better and look forward to a full recovery. Here are the before and after pictures.
