TUFA Climbing is Back in Business!

Hi Everyone, I'm stoked to share that my business, TUFA Climbing, is officially back in action after a three-year hiatus! For those who don't know, I started making homemade climbing bags in 2012 and selling them through Mountain Project. Over the past decade, with feedback and support from the MP community, I was able to build a small brand with a great reputation for crafting top-tier climbing packs at my studio here in Kalispell, Montana. During Covid, I was offered a job to develop and market technical fabrics for Challenge Sailcloth. I put TUFA on the shelf during this time, knowing it was something I wanted to come back to.
Over the last year, I've been prototyping and testing a new version of the Mochilla Backpack, better catered to all-season climbing - the MOCHILLA 33 I'm currently working to get TUFA off the ground and fund materials for 2025 with a Crowdfunding campaign that runs until 1/1/2025. Please check it out and share with anyone you know that appreciates cottage industry gear. This time around, I'll be producing products in small limited-edition batches, instead of made-to-order. I take pride in crafting my own products in-house and this is a better way for me to manage work and life. Thank you all for sticking with me - it feels good to be back to familiar and kind faces. If you're just learning about TUFA, welcome! I've been dreaming big and have big hopes for 2025. Let’s get back to the mountains together. Cheers, |

Today is the last day to back the TUFA Crowdfunder and get in on the 2025 Mochilla production. Thank you to everyone for your support! Much love, Josh |

I replaced my alpine packs within the last year so I can't justify buying one right now. In the future I'll definitely hope to buy one from you. In the more immediate future, I'd love to get one of your chalkbags when you get back to making them. I realize that they aren't your priority, but just telling you so that you're aware that there's interest. Wishing you all the success! |

I'm in the exact same boat as Nate. Let me know when you guys do chalkbags again! |

Just to comment on craftsmanship, I got a chalk bag from TUFA more than 10 years ago, and after many hundreds of days climbing (and scraping up chimneys), it’s still going strong. |

I’m psyched to hear your chalk bag is going strong, Ross! I will do a small production of chalk bags after I deliver the Crowdfunder batch of Mochilla packs. I’m switching from made-to-order system to batch drops, keep an eye out around late February. Happy New Year, y’all! I’m excited to collaborate on great gear in 2025! |

Also in for some chalk bags…the mochilla looks absolutely killer, almost picked one up even though I’m not the target audience ha |

These look awesome! Of course I just bought new bag, so I’ll keep my eyes peeled for what else you put out. |

Thank you BMX and Mike! I’ll keep you all posted on my the chalk bag production in a few months. The Mochilla 33 kick starter runs until Midnight. Please share the word! Happy New Year! |

Hi y'all! It's been a whirlwind of a year, but I'm proud to have finished production for the Mochilla crowd funder. Today is the grand opening of the TUFA Climbing website, with new designs in our Summer offering. All products are 10% with free USA shipping on orders over $99 through July. The chalk bags you've been waiting for are finally here! I've updated the designs for both our chalk bag and chalk bucket. Thanks for all the stoke, support, and patience. It's a big year ahead, and I'm chasing the dream until the wheels fall off. Climb on, |

Awesome. How big a phone can the bag carry and is there any attachment point for a phone lanyard? |

Josh Kornishwrote: Any size? But seriously I love my TUFA chalk bag that I got years ago. |

Fuck yeah, just ordered a chalk bag! |

Hi, I own 3 of your Houdini (awesome design!) chalk bags and my favorite one you made a slightly wider diameter. I really like being able to get my hand in and out of the bag quickly and the larger side pocket makes it easy to get the phone in and out. Your should make more of these for people that wear L and XL gloves. Your Mochilla packs are spot on, I have 2 of them and they are perfect for multi pitch climbing day adventures. |

Thank you so much for your kind remarks, David! I’m glad you’re enjoying your TUFA fleet. ❤️ |

Josh Kornishwrote: Hey Josh, Looks like a great design! That zippered pocket is waterproof and can hold a phone with headlamp, snacks, keys etc..? Sounds like a great chalk bag for multi pitch objectives. Thanks! |

Thank you, Terry! I use a YKK Aquaguard zipper for the back pocket. This is highly water-resistant, and the pocket fits all of those items as it runs the entire length and width of the back. |

Shameless Bump! I’m running a Relaunch Sale through the end of July, one more week! The entire site is 10% off with free USA shipping on orders over $99. Back into a good rhythm, sending out my best work. Thank you for your support! |
