Experimental TR Solo Device

Just thought I'd share what I'm playing with. Arborist by profession and have this multicender device called Bulldog-Bone which have a bit of a cult following in the industry. The guy that makes them "Gordon" is playing with bollard mods to allow it to function with smaller diameter ropes like 9mm so I thought I'd give it a go for TR Solo. So far seems to work pretty decent with my 8.9 (pic) and 9.8 rope with microtraxion backup. Easy self tending up the rope, great modulation on decent, and midline attachable. I'm sure it'll have its quirks but thought I'd share.

That thing looks pretty neat. How is it better than a Taz LOV 3, which I can also LRS with on a 9.4?  We're always looking for the next best thing!

At a glance: I like the two pinch system. Not as thrilled with the seven pins that must not fail for it to work every time. That said, it looks well made and small enough. I would try it.

The change in rope diameter throughout the day causes increased slipping with mechanical multicenders in my experience. I've been reluctant to use them for trs for this reason; I've had some soft stops on mechanical devices, not as reassuring as the instant lock up of a micro trax. Have you had any slipping or creeping?

I bet Gordon would be interested to hear how his device works on tiny, ultra-dynamic ropes.

Just saw these, I'll try to answer questions. Not sure it's better than Taz, I just happened to have this one for tree climbing. I always use a micro trax as backup. I haven't had issues with much creep throughout the day, maybe 6 inches tops but I have a backup so doesn't bother me. I've mentioned it to Gordon ✌️

Another arb guy here, I’ve set lines from the ground and used srt devices with slimmer ropes while I’ve just walked up trees with my spurs, they feed easy and will catch if loaded. Just have to make adjustments based on what rope you’re using. Smallest I’ve tried was about 9mm as a second line while my main system was on a crane above the tree. I’ve only used the taz a little but definitely feel more comfortable with these style devices.
