Warning to Yosemite partners
|
Hi everyone, Recently a few friends have had bad experiences with a 18-24 year old climber calling herself Adele. I wanted to bring attention to it because the last encounter was rude, dangerous, and unacceptable behavior (in my opinion). Let me explain. Let's call my friend Jill. She's a 56 year old POC, I bring that up because I think it's important to the context. My friend Jill went out to Blues Riff with Adele today (6/16) and Adele insisted on leading the route. The route was too hard for Jill to lead and she was hesitant on climbing it. They were using Jill's gear and Adele made it some way up the route before insisting on being lowered. Jill, relieved to get Adele off the route safely, brought her to the ground. Adele told her that she would replace all the gear she had left on route because she couldn't get to the top. The two of them then hiked down and upon reaching the parking area Adele began screaming "Help me! She's going to hurt me! Somebody help!" Men nearby proceeded to hold Jill back while Adele got in her car and drove away, with Jill's car keys inside. They then called park rangers and proceeded to question Jill. Adele stopped responding to Jill's texts and has left Jill stranded with rangers, who took her to Lee Vining. If by chance you climbed Blues Riff after this happened and would be interested in returning Jill's gear, please contact me. I'm not trying to stir drama and I don't know the story from every angle. This is a reminder to be cautious about who you climb with and look out for this person. |

Dang, that’s a weird and scary story. |

She was around the valley all season and every person who interacted with her would probably describe the experience on a spectrum between weird and dangerous. I think she's an overstoker kid who is trying to figure out climbing and traveling. She's not going to make it very far in this community if she isn't honest about her experience and intentions. It's a bad approach to making friends and a dangerous approach to finding climbing partners. Hopefully she figures this out soon before she has burned too many bridges, or even worse gets herself involved in a climbing accident. |

Yes. Serious heads up to all. Caveat Emptor. (Buyer be ware) This individual is not skilled or prepared for any such climbs. |

Joshua Noll wrote: Wow. We met them coming down from BR yesterday. It was a bizarre encounter to say the least. Another party was heading to BR and presumably got their gear. They said they had planned to return it-- I hope they find this thread. Jill said that Adele had tried to throw garbage at the base of the route and that seemed strange enough, but your context makes it clearer. Adele contacted me (I didn't recognize that it was she yesterday on the trail) and wanted to climb Tuolumne later this week. I got some "full of shit" vibes but was going to give her a chance. But, yeah. |

I know this is a Yosemite warning but I just got contacted by an Adele regarding Tahoe. Not sure if it’s one and the same but this post is enough to give me unease. |

Was also bouncing around the Vegas area and sw scene as well. Our schedules never lined up. |

Did Jill ever get her keys back? |

Adele has definitely read this post. Would like to hear her side of the story. |

She got her keys back luckily. Adele dropped them off somewhere then the Park Rangers picked them up. It was facilitated by another person. |

Adele was rescued off the phoenix by YOSAR, she also barely made it up voyager, hangdog following and berating/ verbally assaulting her partner the entire time, and then sandbagged some poor sucker into going to to tales of power with her where they almost trapped themselves pulling their line to get out. She needs to be stopped in a serious way before she kills someone, if she kills herself then that’s what happens but leave an innocent person out of it. |

Holy shit. I had the most insane experience with this person last month... she talked me into catching her on tales of power, proceeded to flail, took me to centinel creek where she promptly bailed on leading a 10d, then murdered a frog on the follow. I admit I gave her way too much benefit of the doubt... I have been that kid in the parking lot with big goals trying to be taken seriously. Seriously concerned that she will get herself or someone else hurt. I opted to message her directly about my concerns but got no response. Hate to feed the MP drama but glad this post is up |

Adrian Fontanilla wrote: I actually climbed with an Adele in Tahoe this season. I initially started reading this thread in alarm but I guarantee it is not the same person. Message me the full username and I can tell you if it is the safe Adele. I don’t know scary Adele, sounds like a trip. |
