Hint:  Rob Blair founded the Mountain Studies Institute, which is based in a down-valley town.

We are looking down on the Animas from the top of Eureka Pillar.

Not Eureka Mountain.

Not Middle, but you’re getting close. Named for a mineral.

Possibly the Animas river then. Wouldn't you know that is an area I spent a week or so in, my only experience in the San Juans.

It's looking like it might be Eureka Mountain Peak. I am still working on it. It's a lot of work!  I wish I had a real old school topo map.

Middle Mountain

I believe that is Minnie Gulch to the north and Maggie Gulch to the south.

The only "mineral" name for a San Juan I have come up with is Silver Mountain,  of which there are two, one too far north, the other too far south. Earlier I found a map I could access that had a lot more peak names, but I don't remember how I got there and can't find it now. I am presently stumped. I do wonder how close is "close"?

Oh there's Vermilion also, those peaks are too far west.

Ok George,  turns out Middle Mountain,  Middle Peak,  and Middle Peak Mountain are all referring to different mountains in the San Juans. I have observed various inconsistencies from different inquiries. If I am correct about Minnie and Maggie Gulches, then somewhere I saw that specified peak referred to as Middle Peak Mountain and either just under or just over 13,000', depending on which map or other reference. I have no real idea on which web link I looked at is truly correct. Help?

Galena Mountain is the one in question. It’s across Maggie Gulch from Middle Mtn. Galena (PbS) is a common mineral often associated with silver deposits.

Eric should go next. He did the work and got close

Aaron can go if he likes or wants. I'm  gonna be busy looking at where I missed this one. The journey is as important as the finish. Same with climbing.

You nailed it George, it's right there and I missed it because I didn't associate the name Galena with a mineral. Missed it by one valley.

It's from a distance, but if you zoom in on a browser you can see more. Name either the snowy range, or the high peak

Wow...pulled that out of my...  Looks like McDonald Peak.  Fantastic!

Long live M2WB!

Name the group in the upper middle of the view or any of the peaks:

Not Rosa.  Did drain this after the hike I took the photo on:

In the Canton of Valais.  So...you're close, George.  Not getting warmer though...
