Recently completed another heavy ascent of el cap and managed to brutalize yet another static rope on its first wall. In my last 10 walls I've retired 4 haul lines due to heavy fuzzing, 3 of which were Sterling safety pro 10mm and a petzl 10mm. I may be retiring them a bit too quickly, but after seeing how much damage single events can cause don't think so. Two of these ropes experienced single event mistakes that have caused me to retire them after their first wall while the other two have lasted 3 or 4 climbs before showing excessive signs of wear and were retired. The next rope I'm looking for would be used on El cap and I'm considering an 11mm for durability, any recommendations would be appreciated. Cheers!

Good question, haul line safety is not to be taken lightly! It's meant to be taken quite heavily (with bags) in fact ;) I had a 200-ft-long 11mm static line that held up incredibly well for quite a few walls and practice sessions. Only thing is, I honestly can't remember where I got it from. Looks like this: After some internet sleuthing, I think it is a Singing Rock Route 44 rope! They are from Czechia! Not 100% sure though. I think folks swear by the Beal Unicore for walls as well. Oh yeah, congrats on your El Cap ascent!

P.S. I never actually retired that magical orange rope, last I knew she was living her best life on the Heart lines haha. P.P.S. We had a Sterling safety pro that was a bit fuzzed for comfort after Salathe Wall. Nothing egregious but it wasn't to old orangesides standards.

If you want something really durable, you can look into arborist ropes. I use this one for hauling and it's pretty darn burly. They're not very smooth with a gri gri. Finish Line 7/16"

Pete likes the Beal Unicore. I’m using an 11mm Blue Water Technora superstatic- primarily sold to the search and rescue markets I expect that is the rope we will be hauling with on Heart this year. Last year we used a 200m Blue Water Assault Line- primarily sold to military and law enforcement.

The best haul lines in the world are Highline Ropes, and are made right up here in the Great White North, eh? You want to contact Andy Danger - he and I have perfected the big wall recipe at about 10.25mm diameter. These ropes are as flexible as a dynamic rope, maybe even more flexible, and have zero stretch. Mention my name for the special PtPP discount! Your mighty Yanqui dollars go a lot farther up here. You guys should become our 11th province. Give Andy a phone call: 705-434-7458. Beal Unicore are the best dynamic ropes in the world. Dynamic. Sheesh.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I ended up with a beal spelenium 10.5mm as suggested by HN2 and for the unicore per Pete's recommendation. I will absolutely be back to this thread when this rope inevitably dies.
