Huge and very loose flake on Corrugation Corner
|
Hello! This may be old news but I've climbed Corrugation Corner four times now and only noticed it this time. Near the beginning of P2, on your way out to the airy arete from the corner, right after the first piton and right before the second piton, there is a large flake that provides an obvious line from the corner to the arete. It shifted perceptibly and audibly under my measly 125lb frame. A photo of the flake, my rope running right over it: Same photo with the flake circled in blue: My view looking up from where I took the first photo, piton visible in the foreground: |

I linked this post in a 90 day conditions comment on the route page for corrugation corner. |

This is being actively investigated stay tuned… |

Went up there this evening/night to investigate and found the loose blocks. I was able to crow bar them off and send them down to their new home far below. Be prepared for some dirty holds since there was quit a bit of dirt behind the blocks. The first pitch belay ledge might still have some small rocks on it, so be careful for climbers below you. I left a rope fixed from the second pin and a cam to the ground. Didn't feel like down soloing in the dark with all the dirt scattered about:). I will be back in the morning to retrieve my gear.As always, feel free to reach out to Lover's Leap Guides with any questions on beta, camping, routes, weather, etc. See you out there! |

Thanks for bringing this to our attention Malcolm, and thanks to Lover's Leap Guides for cleaning it up. Hopefully this will make everyone safer! Many moons ago, in the time of the dinosaurs, I did my first multipitch route, Bear's Reach, at Lovers Leap, so it holds a fond place in my heart |

Wow! As always, Lover’s Leap Guides coming through big time. Way to go guys! See you on the wall! |

As an aside Malcom, how are conditions at the leap? Any snow left on top or is it all gone by now? And do you happen to know if the campground is open? |
|
The Leap is all snow free and good to go. |
