Best games for sitting in a tent?

Going to Denali soon, expecting a lot of snow! What are you favorite games to play while hanging out in a tent with 2-4 people? Thanks! |

Great thread idea. My all time favorite trail game, works well as a tent game since it can be played laying down, is what I've always called The Name Game. 1 person begins by thinking of a famous person and telling the group the individual's first and last initial. The group goes in random order in a sort of 20 questions type game trying to figure out who it is. Yes or no questions only (though sometimes a can't say/maybe is appropriate). No guessing individual names (ie. is it a tom, a tony, a tim). Must choose someone everyone knows to be the mystery person, honors system in place so if you choose someone that no one knows you lose. You can limit it to 20 questions, but honestly keeping track is tedious and eventually the guessers will give up if it goes on too long. As the answerer you are under no obligation to point out mistaken assumptions. Usually begins something like- is it a man- yes/no. are they alive- yes/no. are they an english speaker- yes/no. do they appear on TV regularly- yes/no. and on and on. Great game to play on the long approaches/hikes out. |

Uno has gotten my friends and I through many rainy days in West Virginia sitting in a tent. Simple rules, every game is different due to what cards you get, and it's always fun. Also it's worth getting the waterproof "splash" cards made of clear plastic because those are much more durable and would be much easier to deal with up in snowy conditions. I had a set of regular paper Uno cards that I played regularly with in Middle School and they lasted about a year before falling apart. After that I got the plastic ones and I am still using that same set of cards to this day. |

Just got off a shovel heavy trip to the Ruth in April, Playing cards were great. Bryan mentioned it already but a waterproof deck is nice or just expect the cards may get wet and worn. With 3+ players Hearts is a favorite, it has enough depth to be played for hours. Golf is more mindless and can be fun. Shoutout to the German group who introduced us to a new game they called Fifty (or was it fifty one). Rules: Play without K,Q,J (or these can be assigned 4,3,2). 9’s are worth zero and 10’s are either plus 10 or minus 10, other cards are their number value. Deal five cards to each player. Each player adds a card to the pile and calls out the new running total, then draws to keep their hand at five cards . 50 is the max for the running total, if a player can only make the total over 50 then they fold instead of playing and take the points in their hand. Keep a running point total, you are out if you get to 50. ^Does this sound familiar/anyone know the name of this game in English? |

exploding kittens is pretty great. honorable mentions: taco-cat-goat-cheese-pizza and a standard deck of cards |

Thanks for the recommendations everyone! |

Tichu (proprietary card game; not a standard deck) is very fun, especially with a group of 4. I played a ton of it during a backpacking trip in Kings Canyon where we ended up tentbound for long chunks of time due to wildfire smoke. I also really like "Oh Hell" (you can look up the rules online) - it's a trick-taking game where you try to predict and bet on the exact number of tricks you take. Wizard is a fun similar game with proprietary cards instead of a standard deck. |

Not a game exactly but last summer we had a week of snow and wound up building this enormous cave and just kept improving it daily. Was really so pleasant to have a big space out of the weather since the winds were brutal on the tents as well and it kept us busy in a fun way. We also brought a beater old iPad from like 2010 we bought for $40 and put a few movies on that which we watched several times each. Enjoy the trip it’s a lifetime experience! |

+1 to digging holes. Have done this a couple times in the Ruth. Uno is also a classic. My contribution: Travel-sized Settlers of Catan |
