Box Canyon access blocked
|
FYI the quarry has blocked the access road into box canyon (Trenchtown/Water World) with a large berm of gravel just after the hill. Photo taken today |

It's been like that on and off for over a year. They will come yell at you. |
|
Does the quarry have permission to do this? Honest question. Would like to understand the access of this area better. |

Seems as though access with a vehicle will be an issue for the unforeseeable future. Is it even legal to drive back there? That death hill just before the crag is pretty serious until you get it dialed in. |

The BLM is aware of the access issues to this area at this time, but there's not a quick easy solution. As Taylor pointed out, the mine has owned the land there and most of the throughway all the way to the canyon for many years. Trying to drive all the way is not recommended. |

On the other hand, the walk is 2 miles and is relatively flat. It’s a pleasant warm up. As long as the mine allows passage. |

Pasting the latest comment from the box canyon page here if anyone is thinking of heading out to climb there due to rain: https://www.mountainproject.com/area/113618579/box-canyon Dustin Juarte The quarry has done everything in their power to block access. They have chopped up the road and dug massive trenches that you would have to hike/climb through. Christmas 2023 I tried to visit. I have a very worthy off-road vehicle, and I’m able to go all the way up the big hill with ease but when I descended onto the quarry’s side definitely I was disheartened as they built a 12ish foot wall of gravel and made literal trenches 6-10 feet deep on the other side. They chopped up the main road and practically and effectively destroyed access. Very sad. |

While obnoxious that the quarry is blocking access to this road, as I understand it, all of the roads in this area are closed and it's not even legal to drive any of them in the first place. Which is unfortunate because these are some good crags that are too much work to visit without good access. |

The first mound they displaced has already been bypassed. |
|
I haven’t seen what they did now but the previous mound you could just go right before it and end up on the normal road 100 or so feet away. The a-hole thing they did with the last mound was they put it in a place where you couldn’t possibly turn around without driving into the desert. If they want to block the road they need to do it before the hill not after. |

Worth documenting here, the mine has expanded in the past couple years, making it impossible to drive through. More than just a mound blocking it. 2025: |
