Crampons for soft boots?
|
Can anyone recommend crampons for a super soft boot, La Sportiva Aequilibrium LT GTX. I heard Petzl crampons aren't the best for soft boots? I was thinking grivel? |

Black diamond have a flexible center bar |

most important is the soft center bar and adjustability and fit. I have blue ice harfangs, which is infinitely adjustable to a tight fit, soft dyneema center bar/strap and using it on one of the softest semiauto compatible boot/running shoes (scarpa ribelle hd), had some fitting problem because the shoes heel was a bit too wide at the wrong spot. |

Grivel offers flex bars of two different lengths for their crampons. I've always been very satisfied with their crampon models (on second pair of G12s and also own a pair of G14s), and their Anti-bott design. I just switch between the rigid and flex bars depending on the sole of the boot I'm using that day. |

The Aequilibrium is not "super soft" like a Zodiac, it works OK with Petzl crampons for walking and climbing to some extent, at least in the smaller sizes (maybe a size 46 will flex more than my 42 ?). The issues arrise if you want to climb on vertical ice, or any kind of strong front points striking, because the front of the shoe has a tendancy to slip through the front fixture (unless you use the new "narrow" one). I had Aequilibrium STs with Sarkens last season, no issues for the most part, only ice climbing was problematic (but for that I use ski touring boots or Nepals). |

Grivel crampons with kathoola flex bars installed work awesome on trail runners and could be sweet for other applications. I think the grivel flex bar is flexy as it is and may actually be perfect for your setup. |
