Quick Survey on Access to Outdoor Climbing Gear

I’m working on a project focused on making outdoor climbing gear more accessible, especially for college students, new climbers, and anyone who’s run into cost or availability issues when trying to get outside.

The idea I’m exploring is a peer-to-peer rental/used gear platform where climbers could safely rent or buy used gear with insurance and inspections built in.

If you’ve got 2 minutes, I’d really appreciate your thoughts in this short survey:

Speaking for myself, I would never rent out my climbing gear to a stranger.

I want to know its history, from the time it's new until the day I retire it.

When I was a poor college student, I just used what I had.  Not everything was top of the line, but we made it work.

I like the ideal you're shooting for, and I filled out your survey. Given that the renter is most often someone who knows little about proper use and storage of gear, I wouldn't rent mine out, and I'd think you'd have to inspect each piece of load-bearing gear after each use. That might work somewhere like Boulder where many people climb or want to. But in an expanded network, I'm imagining each piece of gear being shipped at least twice for each use. Best of luck and cover your butt.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
