What gloves did you use on the Cassin Ridge?

Hey just wondering about what glove setup you used? anything you liked about your setup? Anything you'd change?

I am missing a heavier insulated climbing glove, so looking for any recommendations. I'm hoping to avoid leather gloves bc I don't want them to freeze. (see this TR for an example:  maxneale.blogspot.com/2014/…)

My current gloves include:

  • Glove liners
  • Temres 282 gloves (x2)
  • Mt Baker II Gore-text Mitts (from OR)

Thanks!

BD used to make a beefy, high-quality glove called the Samurai that was perfect for big routes on high mountains but they discontinued them years ago. I still have mine (and baby them) precisely because they fill this particular niche. I'd be curious myself to know if there's something equivalent these days since mine are nearing their end.

My heavier climbing glove right now is the Hestra Ergo Grip Incline and it seems to work well as a more dexterous “heavyweight” glove. I haven’t gone Cassin levels of altitude but it’s held up decent in the -5F weather I have climbed in.

Edit: didn’t see the leather exclusion, these wouldn’t fit that but I haven’t seen anything that matches the level of warmth to dexterity; not that there isn’t something out there.

I would check out CAMP Gecko Hot & Gecko Alpine. Not cassin in particular but I have found them to be very warm w great dexterity

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
