4-5-25  FYI it did rain some Thursday evening…

The sun is out now, but please find some other place to climb at.

Please protect the problems

Guy thanks for the consistent coverage and being such a good ambassador for Stoney

Matthew …. Thanks for the acknowledgement!

Yes I do love Stoney Point. 52 years ago I went out there looking to see what this rockclimbing was all about. Little did I know how addictive it is.

It’s dry out there now- go have fun.

The very thick morning fog isn’t rain… but it dampens the stone some.
The climbing is good all week long.
Hope to see you out there.

As someone new to the area, but not new to sandstone fragility, I’m curious about this type of weather report:

To me this reads as the low cloud marine layer is hanging about the area - but that there hasn’t been any real precipitation for several days. Is that correct?

Or am I incorrect and if I were to go there today I would likely find damp dirt/rock?

If it’s questionable at all I have no desire to risk anything, just trying to get a better sense of the weather here.

Tony…. Thank you for asking.
Today is one of our standard marine layer days.
It’s totally cool to go climb. Although be careful in the early morning, as the stone will have some surface dampness. It will be slick.

Because you are new to Stony you might not know about the “dirt test”…. Drag your heal through the dirt- if’s it’s wet, muddy about 1 inch deep- the stone is wet - don’t climb.

Stony sandstone gets really fragile if it’s wet- almost mud, but that takes a real soaking.

We have had the hot days needed to really dry it out. But you always need to be aware of the entire place. Around the north side, if you see “weeping” from the cracks. It’s still very wet.

I did not see any when I went there last Thursday.

I will be there Today about 4. I’m the old guy - say hi

Despite the reports of rain, locally, be advised that it did not rain in Chatsworth.

Enjoy

Anyone know if it rained in chatsworth today?

Evan…. Good question…. I’ve been busy organizing go-karters up in Sonoma last 4 days. And I can say for sure it was raining on and off the whole time. Racing in these conditions is really hard and people must gamble with their set up and tyre choices.

If someone knows the answer to Evan’s question please respond.

I use the trip each year to Sonoma to take the time to visit Yosemite valley for a few days.

So if it rained please give the stone some time to thoroughly dry out.

Later all

Evan, yes there was rain in the area Saturday morning -- I'm 7 miles south in Woodland Hills but doubt Chatsworth fared much differently. Kinda random little squalls interspersed with sunshine.

Sunday I was working up in Santa Barbara so I can't speak for LA, but it was raining on and off all afternoon, and *cold*! Spoke to my folks in San Diego and they were getting the same all weekend.

Thanks for the confirmation! Damn spring showers strike again…

The Valley was nice, as always.
I love the spring time there.

Evan, Andrew thanks for the update. I was there Thursday. It was really nice.

Time to get after it!

But it might rain some more. Stay tuned.

I just pulled up and it started raining- pretty intense, the gutters are little rivers!

So it’s going to need a few hot days

The hot days did it. The place passes the dirt test… It’s good to go.
