RMNP conditions?

Conditions updates for snow/alpine ice routes? Is the hike in currently packed snow, or will skis be necessary?

After getting dumped on this last week, from what I can see the snow up high is melting or blowing off rapidly. Ridges look scramble-able, and couloirs might be packed in enough to climb.

I'm hoping to romp up Meeker via dragon's egg couloir on Thursday. But if Dreamweaver is in, I'd opt for that...

Hey Detrick, not sure on Dreamweaver right now but it's probably full of snow given the aspect, elevation, and time of year (typically the case around now).

I'd probably avoid Dragon's Egg if you're hiking, as I think you'd be postholing like crazy. Last year, almost this exact date, it was dry hiking the first mile or two (sneakers were nice), but then there was enough snow that flotation felt pretty essential. Higher up, in the steeper parts of the couloir, it was good bootpacking (skis were nice for the descent). Even if you're there early after a cold night, on the way out I think you'll really want skis/flotation. Hope you have a good one!

I'm assuming that Lamb's slide and Notch are probably in similar condition? Lots of snow and postholing?

Hey Kelly, thanks for that heads up! Here’s a photo from 4/12/25. Turned out to be a great day, but yep, a lot of postholing. I was pleased with what felt like minimal risk of small wet slide avys today - feels like spring on this side of the mountain!

Terrific, Detrick! Sounds like a great day, despite a little extra workout from the postholing :). Good reminder that time in the mountains is nearly always worth it. Thanks for the pic, too!

Hey Detrick, I was just up in the Chasm Cirque yesterday and remembered your post about conditions. The north facing aspects (Lamb’s Slide, Keplinger, etc.) were all still full of deep snow. Martha (my objective) was in great shape, and there was a booter the whole way. I wouldn’t expect Dreamweaver to be in condition for about a month, but Martha is a good alternative for the time being.

Anyone been up recently to check out any of the routes (Dreamweaver or others)? Been watching the webcam and Alltrails and it looks a bit snowy still(?)
