Denali Sock System

I am climbing Denali next month and this is my current sock plan for up to 17k:

Silk Sock, with Rab Vapor Barrier sock on top, with wool sock on the outside.

This way my boot liner will not get sweaty at all and the Vapor Barrier sock will hold in any moisture. I’ve had this suggested to me by others but I want to make sure I’m not making a grave mistake with this setup.

What would you suggest?

I’m wearing Spantiks with Purple haze overboots and am thinking of buying heated socks for summit day.

In terms of heated socks, do you have any suggestions that aren’t Lenz? They are just so expensive here in the U.S. because of the batteries.

Thank you for your help it means a lot!

I've done plenty of subzero F winter backpacking here in the northeast. The thin sock and vapor barrier work really well to keep your real socks and boots dry. Its the only way I can go multiple days without having some indoor\fire time to dry my gear out.

I also started wearing heated socks (lenz that I got a steal on from gear trade). I def recommend them. They keep my feet cold, but feeling, opposed to totally numb with all else equal. Figure out the solar charging game to keep those batteries going.

I have used a similar system but used these socks along with a Dachstein sock. One less sock. With such a system one needs to dry out their feet and socks every night. I brought along a second pair of wool socks that I wore at night while my other socks dried out in my sleeping bag. Such a system is perhaps a bit old school as there are some other synthetics such as the Lenz and Lopren.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
