Sonora steep sport climbing thread
|
Reviving this thread for Winter 2024-2025. I'll be looking for Sonora sport partners most weekends this winter starting in early December and through the winter. I live in Sacramento, have a standard Mon-Fri work schedule, and am available to climb weekends. Occasionally can have a weekday free to climb, but not super regularly. Experienced climber (20+ years), but since moving to California and few years ago I have been on a bouldering sidequest, and am just now getting the endurance back for sport climbing. I'm most interested in Jailhouse projecting (especially later in the winter), though for the early part of the winter some mileage climbing at other walls is also of interest. |

Looking for Jailhouse partners this weekend (Saturday Feb 1 or Sunday Feb 2). Anyone interested? Weather forecast looks a bit showery, so Jailhouse will be the place to stay out of the rain. And in general, will be trying to get to Jailhouse most weekends February-March. Let me know if interested. |

JCM wrote: We have a good 10c, 11b (currently missing one bolt but gear can substitute), 11c and 11d steep sport routes. Hit me up if you're keen to climb some local quartzite. Weather doesn't look amazing short term but I imagine we'll have a few good weekends before March. Lots of really good moderate trad including a fantastic off fingers 10b crack. =) |

Is JH going to be dry and good to go for a Sunday climb, given the forecasted rain? I’m new to the area and don’t have a bead on how much rain in the forecast is too much rain. If anyone has any forecast-translating tips for these two walls I’d really appreciate it. |

Brady, it depends on the route and total rain so far for the season. You can climb in the rain if it's the first couple rains of the season, or your route never seeps anyway. Once it's rained a lot though, most routes seep for a bit and some seep for a long time, even if it's sunny weather. Not sure how it's been this season but I think it hasn't rained too much so far. |

Anyone interested in a gold wall or jailhouse session tomorrow Wednesday 2/12? |
|
Anyone wanting to go to GW on Saturday 3/8? |
|
i just want to say nice work to everyone using GW in this thread. It may not seem like much, and although using the term is not explicitly against access agreements (the wording is explicit about publishing route info and exact location of GW) however I shall say this as someone with zero authority and zero real work in litigating access: If the land owner et al were to google GW's Full Name and were to say find pages of forum threads of folks looking to bring other climbers to the wall, it could lead to undesirable outcomes. I think it seems like such a small effort but I think this is a good effort on your part. So you, yes you, I'm talking to you -- I'm very proud of you. |

Looking for GW partners from now until it gets too hot. And then column of the giants. Working in the San Jose area, free every Friday - Sunday. |

Jailhouse this Saturday anyone? Trying to hide from the rain |

5.10 red agro shoes at Ross $ 19.00. 50 lbs layer crumble at Tractor Supply $19.00. I chose the latter. |

Who? |

idk really. I felt like the chicken feed post was similar to the delphic oracle where its true meaning will be revealed only when I am ready to understand its answer. In the meantime I figured I'd throw in a little 'mastercard' commercial with a little extra 209 flair. Hope to see ya around Oracle of DelPhil. |

O thx 4 the clarification. Thic as mud. Ok here is the true intent of my previous post: I saw new 5.10 climbing shoes at Ross in Sonora for $19.00. Amazing huh? I couldn't really get a fix on sizes because the anti-theft clip. Weird mega down turned. I did buy chicken food instead; oddly enough 19.00 also! Kevin, you're a mensch. |
